"Yeah, she was a lot to repair," West had to admit with a thoughtful frown. "Had to replace pretty much everything after that accident. But I don't regret a penny spent on her."

"What would you two say to a chance to drive fast and earn money and free parts?" Lessa asked carefully and Reid looked over at West searching for his answer.

"What would it involve exactly?" West asked with a clear air of interest. He certainly couldn't turn down the opportunity for free parts.

"All I can tell you two now is that it involves driving fast and helping people, I know it's a lot to ask but I've been looking for a long time for people with your talents and sense of honor." Lessa explained carefully.

"Sounds interesting," West admitted with a shrug, glancing at Reid briefly before he turned back to her. "If it involves fast driving I'm in."

"I'm in too," Reid agreed, he had very little life outside of cars now that Rachel was essentially ignoring him.

"Great, I'll be in contact with you both in the future. I need to speak with my boss but expect a meeting soon," Lessa said with a smile.

West smiled and happily agreed, he was kind of excited to see what this would involve. With little else to do he turned back to prepare himself for the race. This time he managed to place in first for his round with a huge lead over his competitors, enabling him to progress into the semi-finals.

Lessa came in second by a hair to Reid and the next day Lessa spoke to her boss in length about bringing in West and Reid.

The Boss was clearly curious about the other boys and when she had explained what had happened he agreed to meet with them the following day. They were to meet at a fairly shady hotel on the east side of town. In the suite room the boss was lounging back at his desk working on a laptop but he looked up when they arrived. He was an older man, likely in his fifties, with slightly graying hair and a variety of scars which suggested that he had a fairly active life. For his age he seemed to be in incredibly good shape and he wore a badge with an odd symbol on his chest pocket of his collared shirt.

"So," he spoke when they entered the room, "You must be the two new ones. My name is Ortis. How much do you know?"

"I didn't tell them much " Lessa admitted as she stepped in behind the boys.

"All she told us was we would be driving fast, helping people and possibly getting free parts." Reid admitted.

"All of that is true," Ortis agreed. "Very well. We are a secret organization which works as a sort of branch of the FBI, but without government interference. Our job is to crack down on the largest criminal organizations in the city and to prevent wars and mass terrorist operations from succeeding."

"Wait, what do we have to do with this?" West asked curiously, he couldn't see how he had any skills relating to this at all.

"Well, many of these operations are funded by the underground races in this city," Ortis explained. "What we do specifically is to prevent these people from being funded by ensuring that they do not win these races. You will be paid handsomely for your efforts, of course, as well as compensated for any injuries acquired on the job."

"So all we have to do is win races? That doesn't sound so bad but honestly I think the police are on the verge of cracking down on the races and neither of us can afford jail." Reid said carefully.

"You will be given individual identities to ensure that the police will not find you, as well as personal protection," Ortis assured him. "We have bodyguards for every racer who works for us."

"Will they protect our families too? From these terrorists if they figure us out?" West asked carefully to which Ortis nodded.

"Yes, your family will be protected as well. And you will receive special defense training should it ever prove necessary."

"I'm in," Reid nodded. Sure it was going to be tough but he had little to lose.

"It really is worth it, you even get the chance to travel to other cities as well." Lessa explained.

"Sounds good to me," West agreed, he hoped that meant that he might have a chance to take Seria on more trips. She needed to get out too.

"Good," Ortis nodded. "Then if there are no more questions you will begin your training today. Lessa and my son will be in charge of bringing you up to speed. You will find him at the racetrack off of 3rd street. I believe he is testing the new company model."

"It sounds like fun," Reid nodded and when prompted he followed Lessa who took the pair out to the race track calling Sabine on her way there to update him.

When they arrived Sabine was standing out in front of a shiny, extremely modern racecar near the entrance of the track. His red hair was lightly spiked and he wore all black racing gear. He looked to be around twenty seven, possibly twenty eight and his eyes were strangely calculating as he watched them approach. West found himself pausing, then turning to Reid as he quickly spoke.

"Wait, Reid. Don't you recognize him? That's the Crimson Demon. The guy who won that race last year. The current champion."

Without hesitating Lessa walked right up to Sabine, "so, how does she handle?"

"I think you're right, if he's part of this then I think we made the right choice. Just think for how much better we can get with that kind of taining," Reid observed.

"Fairly well, rough on the edges," Sabine admitted coolly as he glanced over at her. "So these are the new recruits? One didn't even make it to the Finals last year, the other wiped out on the second to last turn. Are you sure they are good enough?"

"That's true," West agreed although he still was eying Sabine with a clear challenge in his eyes. He was determined not to be beat by this guy again.

"After all these years you still question me? Sure their a little rough around the edges but from what I understand the one that didn't make it did that so his friend could and the accident was caused by another driver. I seem to remember another good driver whose been in an accident or two that wasn't their fault, and may have also caused a few of his own." Lessa pointed out.

Sabine observed her with a thoughtful and maybe slightly irritated frown for a moment before he slowly nodded as he spoke. "Fine. We'll give it a shot. Did father go over the other driver profiles yet?"

"Of course," Sabine nodded before he turned back to eye the boys. "Let's begin."

Over the course of the following couple of days the boys were both put through an intense driving bootcamp, where they learned quite a few new techniques to help them gain an edge over their competitors. Their cars were decked out with new technology and they were taught basic fighting skills for self defense. West was surprised to find that Sabine was not only a demon on the track but a pretty incredible fighter on the ground, and Lessa was shockingly a better fighter than the red haired boy. What had they walked into?

On the side Lessa also taught them how to hack into the police site and change records so they can stay off the radar, it was clear that she was happy to have more people on the team.

On the end of the fourth day Reid turned to West, "dude do you think we are even going to have to use half of this extra stuff that they taught us?"

"I hope not," West admitted with a frown as he looked at his friend. He couldn't help but be rather concerned. Was this really safe when he had a family to protect too?

While they trained Serith had researched the cars rather thoroughly and, when the semi-final race day arrived, he made sure that he was at the track early. Upon arriving he quietly made his way over to the betting booth.

Having automatically qualified for the finals Sabine once more hadn't bothered to show up to the race, but both boys had new bodyguards who accompanied them to the race.
