The Drifters

Lessa joined them knowing Sabine would give her hell for still having to qualify but she didn't mind. After registering Lessa spotted her oblivious cop and went over to say hello, "learned a little more since we last spoke?"

Having been focusing on the list of participants Serith jumped slightly and turned to her in clear surprise, then tried to hide it with a tiny, strained smile as he spoke. "Oh, you're here again. What are you talking about?"

"It's okay, I won't tell anyone your secret. That's just between us," Lessa said with a little wink. She was the reason he had all that information anyways, sneaking into the police station wasn't even that hard.

Serith frowned and eyed her for a moment before he spoke. "Why would you be willing to keep that a secret?" He asked her slowly. There was no reason for any racer to be comfortable having a cop in their presence, especially a cop who was determined to put an end to the underground races.

"Why would I have a problem helping someone get an idea to look into something before they made real fools of themselves?" Lessa asked curiously faking innocence.

Serith watched her for a moment before he shrugged - maybe he had been wrong. "I guess that would be silly," he agreed. "Actually, I was wondering something. I've been wanting a chance to talk to some of the racers. Would you be willing to help me with that?"

"What so I'm not enough for you?" Lessa asked with a frown, she had a plan but wanted to play with the him a bit.

"Well, of course I like you too," Serith protested quickly. "But there's one racer in particular who I really kind of idolize. I know he's pretty well known in the racing world. Goes by the Crimson Demon."

"Hmm, don't know if he's here but I can introduce you to some others," Lessa offered as she motioned for him to follow her. "I'm Snowy by the way."

"Nice to meet you Snowy," Serith smiled as he turned to follow her. Maybe this would still be better than nothing. He had hoped that if he could take down the major name in the racing world, the entire system might be easier to take down, but if he could earn the trust of the others it might make it even easier to do that. "My name is Silverlin."

Upon seeing them approach West immediately tensed. There was no way that was the guy from the other race, was there?

As they walked Lessa carefully led him away from Reid and West to another pair of racers, one was tall and scraggly and the other was short and fat. "This is Junkrat and Road Hog, they are from Australia. They actually still use right hand drive cars."

"Wow, that's really interesting," Serith offered them a tiny smile as he spoke. "Nice to meet you both. I'm a big fan, actually very interested in racing myself. Just trying to learn as much as I can."

"Well in that case come on over and I'll show you what a real race car looks like," Junkrat offered with a creepy smile as he motioned for Serith to step over to the car.

Serith hesitated before he turned to Lessa. "Actually Snowy, I was wondering if I could see your car," he spoke a little too quickly. "I'm a big fan of yours too."

"You know that's really quite insulting Silverlin, you want to take these guys up on their offer or it might not go well," Lessa said quietly to Serith as she watched the men watching them.

Seeing no choice Serith nodded and tensely stepped over to the car. He wasn't afraid to defend himself if need be. Before he could reach it he was relieved when the announcer began to ask for the racers to line up for the race. The Semi-Finals were one round, and the top 5 racers out of 10 participants would progress onto the finals.

Lessa gave out a little squeak, "oh looks like I have to go but I'll see you later Silverlin."

"After this race, you better come back so we can show you what winners are made of," Junkrat hissed at SSserith as Lessa bounced off.

"Yeah, I'll do that," Serith hastily agreed before he turned and quickly stepped away to watch the race.

Once the racers were lined up there was a moment of silence, then the firing of the gun signaled them to begin. It was a difficult and complicated course, and after the third turn one of the participants had already wiped out by losing traction and crashing into a street lamp.

Lessa hovered in third just trying to qualify, she didn't want to risk too much in this race if she could help it.

Reid worked his way to the front keeping close tabs on West as the moved, he was thankful for the new maneuvers.

With the new maneuvers West found himself pretty easily able to keep up with the front runners. He was narrowly beaten out for first by a surprisingly fast driver from Japan, who seemed to be absolutely gliding along the course like it was nothing at all. Despite not winning the race he was thrilled that they had all qualified.

As soon as the race was done Lessa rounded everyone up, "it's time to get out of here, I have a feeling the cops might crack down on this party before long."

Junkrat and Road Hog parked their cars back where they were and waited for Serith.

As soon as the race was over Serith attempted to slip through the crowd and back to where he had parked his car a few blocks away. He was determined not to run into the other racers.

West agreed and immediately followed her back to the base where Ortis and Sabine were both waiting. They were greeted with dinner and champagne, then immediately forced back into training.

Seeing him try to get away Junkrat and Road Hog jumped into their cars and tore after him, now he was a target.

While the boys trained Lessa pulled Ortis off to the side to talk to him about Serith and her plan with him.

Having heard about the cop Ortis eyed her thoughtfully as he spoke. "How should we proceed with this? We could take him out now."

Serith cursed upon seeing the cars approach and immediately dashed to his own. He managed to make it and frantically called for help with his phone while he peeled out of the alley and tried to escape. His car couldn't even attempt to escape them and it wasn't long before he was forced to swerve down a nearby street, the tight and unfocused turn causing his car to flip and skid down the alley until it lay at rest, upside down against one of the brick walls of a building.

"Actually he thinks I'm a ditz that is going to give away secrets of the racing world. I was thinking of using him to get the cops to take out some competition," Lessa admitted.

Seeing the crash Junkrat had Road Hog go and get Serith, he had some questions for this kid and now he was very determined to get some answers before he tries to escape again.
