The Drifters

Sabine shook his head and lightly rubbed her shoulder as he spoke wearily. "You're fine Lessa, relax."

Lessa sighed and melted against him, "thank you Sabine. It will all be okay, right?"

"I'm sure it will be, " Sabine assured her. "We'll figure this out. There might be some specialized treatment center out there that I can try."

"I can look for one for you, I just want you to be okay. It's the least I can do for you," Lessa offered softly.

"If you'd like that would be appreciated, " Sabine agreed although he looked unnerved by the thought. He didn't want to spend the rest of his life being poked and prodded like some science experiment.

"I'll find a good place and I'll be by your side through it all, you know that," Lessa said softly as she shifted to squeeze his hand.

"I know, " Sabine relaxed a little as he lightly squeezed her hand back. "Thank you Lessa."

"You don't need to thank me, you have already done so much for me. I'm just paying you back," Lessa explained softly.

"You're still sticking with me through this, " Sabine shrugged lightly. "You're willing to see me at my worst. That's much more than payback. "

"Then we are even. How much longer are you stuck here?" Lessa asked curiously, she wanted to bring him home.

"They should be by any minute with the paperwork, " Sabine replied. "I signed most of the forms while you were asleep so I just need the discharge information. I didn't want to wake you though in order to get dressed."

"Oh, then I'll let you do that then take you home. I'm sure you're missing your own bed," Lessa offered as she shifted to step out.

"I wouldn't mind it," Sabine admitted as he thanked her and shifted to get up. Before long he had been discharged. He was clearly very weak and even the walk to the car seemed to completely exhaust him.

Lessa quietly drove him home and helped him to his room before sitting down at her computer to not only look up a place for Sabine but to try and find out who that girl was in Tokyo.

There were a variety of cancer research centers but in one of the smaller ones was a doctor who claimed to specialize in untreatable cancers.

The girl appeared to be impossible to track, mostly because somehow all of the records in Storm had been erased.

Lessa quickly contacted the doctor, that was something she wanted to do first. Though on the side she cast out a call to her hacker friends to help her out with finding the girl, she knew there was no was to completely get rid of the data.

The receptionist answered her call quickly but informed her that the soonest available appointment was in two weeks.

"Is there any way I can speed that up, please? I know you hear this all the time but I'm really desperate to get an appointment and I'll do anything," Lessa pleaded.

"I'm sorry but that is the earliest appointment, " the secretary informed her. "Unless there is a cancellation we cannot do anything else. "

"I guess I just have to hope it won't be too late by then," Lessa said with a broken sigh. "Can I give you my number so you can call me if someone cancels?"

The receptionist agreed and promised to inform her if anything popped up sooner.

Lessa sighed and thanked the woman before going about her other task, absently she wondered about Serith.

There was no information on the girl through that day, but the following day Serith texted her around noon. 'I found one of the Purge bases.'

'Have you talked to Ortis? Or the other cops?' Lessa texted back with a frown as she worked hard to track the girl.

'I can't talk to the cops. Not safe. Can't get to the base,' Serith admitted. He seemed sort of panicked in his texts.
